The City of Sacramento\, and other cities and farms in the Sacramento Valley are protected from this flooding by the Yolo Bypass and other parts of an extensive flood control system. Join Marc Hoshovsky as he explores several key sites in the Yolo Basin to learn how this flood control system works. The Delta Century bike ride starts at the oldest winery in San Joaquin County\, Jessie’s Grove Winery. Choose from three routes\, a 100 mile\, 62 mile\, and 25-mile route. All three routes are completely flat (only climbing is bridges and levees) making this ride ideal first century. Aquatic invasive species can have negative impacts on California’s water delivery systems\, hydroelectric facilities\, agriculture\, boating\, fishing\, and the environment. AIS can include quagga and zebra muscles as they can multiply quickly\, encrust watercraft\, affect water quality\, aquatic food web\, and native fish communities. Workshop speakers include staff from California State Parks Division of Boating and Waterways\, California Coastal Commission\, California Department of Fish and Wildlife\, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services and the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center. \nRegister by March 20. \nFor additional information on aquatic invasive species\, visit the Division of Boating and Waterways.

The Dunes are home to the endangered Antioch Dunes evening primrose\, the Contra Costa wallflower\, and the Lange’s metalmark butterfly. Put on your hiking shoes and grab your water bottle to explore the only wildlife refuge in the country that has been established to protect endangered plants and insects.\n10:00 AM (1-1.5 hour walk).
