DESCRIPTION:Every Second Saturday docents lead tours of the Antioch Dunes\, a National Wildlife Refuge that is otherwise closed to the public. The Dunes are home to the endangered Antioch Dunes evening primrose\, the Contra Costa wallflower\, and the Lange’s metalmark butterfly. Put on your hiking shoes and grab your water bottle to explore the only wildlife refuge in the country that has been established to protect endangered plants and insects.\n10:00 AM (1-1.5 hour walk). DESCRIPTION:UPDATE: DUE TO CURRENT EVENTS OF COVID-19\, THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELED \nThe Division of Boating and Waterways is hosting a free workshop on how to prevent aquatic invasive species (AIS) from spreading. Aquatic invasive species can have negative impacts on California’s water delivery systems\, hydroelectric facilities\, agriculture\, boating\, fishing\, and the environment. AIS can include quagga and zebra muscles as they can multiply quickly\, encrust watercraft\, affect water quality\, aquatic food web\, and native fish communities. Workshop speakers include staff from California State Parks Division of Boating and Waterways\, California Coastal Commission\, California Department of Fish and Wildlife\, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services and the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center. \nRegister by March 16. \nFor additional information on aquatic invasive species\, visit the Division of Boating and Waterways.
